Matthew HARDICKER (1896-1915)
Matthew HARDICKER , son of John William HARDICKER (1864-1919) and Margaret Ann WILDING (1865- ), was born in 1896 in Preston, Lancashire, England. 1 In 1901 he was resident in Preston, 81 Old Lancaster Lane. In 1911 he was resident in Preston, 82 Old Lancaster Lane. In 1911 he was a Cotton Weaver Tenter. In 1915 he was a Soldier, Private, 1/4 L.R.L. Territorials. He died of Died of wounds on 23 June 1915 in Etaples, France. He was buried in Preston Cemetery.

During the First World War, the area around Etaples was the scene of immense concentrations of Commonwealth reinforcement camps and hospitals. It was remote from attack, except from aircraft, and accessible by railway from both the northern or the southern battlefields.
